How can we help?

Quick answers about recording, scores, levels and your account. Can't find it? Write to us at the bottom of the page.

Getting started

Which languages can I practise?

German and English. You choose one when you sign up and can switch later from your profile.

What level should I start at?

When you start, Fluensay offers a short speaking check that places you at the level that fits, from A1 up to C1. You can skip it and start at the beginning if you prefer.

How do new levels unlock?

Each level has its own set of sentences. Pass enough of them, including a few of the harder “Challenge” sentences, and the next level opens.

What is the daily goal?

Three tries a day. Each sentence or word you send for a check counts as one, whether it passes or not. Reach the goal to keep your streak going.

Can I use Fluensay on my computer?

Yes. Log in with the same account in your browser and your progress is shared between the app and the web.

Recording & scores

How do I record?

Press and hold the blue mic button, read the sentence, then let go. You can listen back and record again as many times as you like. Only when you tap Send for analysis does it get checked.

The app can't hear me / my microphone isn't working

Fluensay asks for microphone access the first time you record. If you said no, open your phone's Settings, find Fluensay, and turn Microphone on.

If recordings still come out silent, try your phone's own voice memo app. If that's silent too, the problem is with the phone's microphone rather than the app. A quiet room and holding the phone about a hand's width from your mouth help a lot.

What do the colours mean?

Green means a word or sentence passed. Amber means try again. Blue is for buttons and the item you’re on. Grey-blue boxes are tips.

Scores: 80 and up is a pass, 60 to 79 is developing, 40 to 59 needs work, and under 40 means slow down and listen to the example first.

I scored over 80 but didn't pass. Why?

A pass also needs every word said (completeness) and the sounds to be accurate enough. If you skipped a word or one sound was far off, the result screen tells you which part held you back.

How does the Practice list work?

Words you struggle with are saved and grouped by sound. A word comes back for a re-check a day later. Pass it again on a later day and it's marked as mastered. The Grammar and Vocabulary tabs collect mistakes from conversations and new words from listening.

Why does checking a recording sometimes take a while?

Each recording is analysed word by word, sound by sound. Most come back in a few seconds, but on a slow connection it can take longer. Please keep the app open until the result appears.
